How Do I Participate in the PMCDP? / FAQs

WHO MAY PARTICIPATE?

All DOE staff is eligible to participate. You may enroll in PMCDP classes to enrich your project management knowledge and skill, or work towards certification.

WHO IS REQUIRED TO PARTICIPATE & OBTAIN CERTIFICATION?

All DOE federal project management personnel required to plan and execute projects in accordance with DOE Order 413.3A must be certified under the PMCDP. In addition, the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), Office of Procurement Policy has promulgated certification requirements for the acquisition workforce* in civilian agencies. Project managers assigned to projects considered major acquisitions** are required to be certified to a senior level under the Federal Acquisition Certification Program for Program and Project Managers (FAC-P/PM). DOE PMCDP is compliant with these requirements.

PROGRAM OFFICE SPONSORSHIP

If you wish to attain PMCDP certification, you must be sponsored by your program office (PSO). Certification packages are not accepted from individuals without PSO sponsorship and approval. Certification candidates are nominated by their PSO with documentation submitted to the Certification Review Board electronically through Corporate Human Resources Information Service/Employee Self Service system (CHRIS/ESS).

Staff who only wish to take PMCDP training to develop their project management skills should work with their supervisor and within their Individual Development Plan (IDP). Click here to view the most current PMCDP training schedule.

ASSOCIATION WITH PMCDP

PMCDP records and certification applications are generated electronically through a training module in CHRIS/ESS. If your PSO agrees to sponsor you for certification, you must be associated with the PMCDP training module in order to enter your certification information and apply for certification.

The PMCDP training module resides on the CHRIS/ESS. It is the portal for you to enter your certification competency information. You must be associated with the module by your appropriate human capital management personnel, rather than through your training coordinators. Contact your supervisor and/or your administrative officer and request to be associated with the PMCDP by the applicable human capital representative.
