The President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll program is an initiative that responds to President Bush’s call to service by building on and supporting the civic engagement mission of our nation’s colleges and universities.
Sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation, the U.S. Departments of Education and Housing and Urban Development, and in concert with Campus Compact, the recognition program is designed to increase public awareness of the contributions that students, faculty, and staff are making within their local communities and across the country through volunteer service with a special emphasis this year on activities performed in response to the Gulf Coast hurricanes of 2005. The program also identifies and promotes community service model programs and practices in higher education.
