President George W. Bush will meet Mick Jay Krueger when he arrives in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, October 20, 2004. Krueger,a senior at the University of Wisconsin - Eau Claire, is an active volunteer with First Book, a non-profit organization that helps low income children get one new book every month during the school year.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Krueger, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

Krueger helped organize the First Book chapter at the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, which is financially supported by five local organizations and serves approximately 250 children. Krueger has also been involved with the Student Wisconsin Education Association, Jumpstart - a literacy program for low income children, the Student Council for Exceptional Children, and Special Olympics. In addition, Krueger has taught Sunday school at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marian, Wisconsin, and is the former director of the Eau Claire YMCA childcare program.
