Argentina and Chile are pictured in this MODIS true-color image captured on October 14, 2001. The famous Andes Mountains are also visible, running north and south down the entire length of the image. Though some of the snow visible in the Andes is due to snowfall, the 2 large patches of in the bottom half of the image are actually permanent snow packs. Also visible in the image is a phytoplankton bloom occurring in the Gulf of Corcovado, which is halfway up the right side of the image.
