PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Education Associates

[Educators Grades K-Higher Education & Students Higher Education]
[Available: Nationally]

The Education Associates project was initiated in 1998 as a cooperative effort between Ames Research Center and the University of California, Santa Cruz, under the authority of the National Space Grant College and Fellowship Act. The Education Associates project is designed to provide university students and faculty with experiential learning opportunities in the space sciences, engineering, science administration and related fields at ARC. The project also supports NASA's science education and training missions and addresses the national need to develop a cadre of trained professionals with competencies in a wide variety of aerospace and related technical disciplines. Further, it provides ARC with a diverse population of eager, bright student interns, as well as more experienced postdoctoral and faculty fellows in support of ARC's varied scientific projects and missions. Nearly 700 students and faculty from 130 different colleges and universities across the nation have participated. They have worked with about 450 different ARC sponsors and mentors on projects in nearly every program and division of ARC. The National Space Grant Foundation assumed administration in 2002. The Foundation is dedicated to building strategic partnerships between NASA Centers and Space Grant Consortia across the nation. Extension of the project to other centers is being actively explored.
