Hospice and Home Health Agency Characteristics: United States, 1991
The National Center for Health Statistics has just published a report that describes characteristics concerning hospice and home health agencies.
This report, Hospice and Home Health Agency Characteristics: United States, 1991, presents State and national statistics on home health agencies and hospices from the 1991 National Health Provider Inventory. Detailed tables include facility characteristics such as client size, type of ownership, and type of certification.
Data highlights:
The southern region
of the United States accounted for the largest portion of home health agencies (40
percent) and hospices (33 percent).
In all four regions, 100 to 299
clients were the most common size for home health agencies, and 8 to 19 clients were the
most common size for hospices.
The hospice industry was
primarily nonprofit (88 percent) whereas the home health industry was more diverse.
Nonprofit home health agencies accounted for 33 percent of ownership, proprietary for
41percent, and 22 percent were government owned.
