USGS Scientists Contribute to New Book on Pharmaceuticals in the Environment

Book Cover: Pharmaceuticals in the Environment

U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) scientists have written two chapters in the 2nd edition of Pharmaceuticals in the Environment. The book is a timely collection of writings by scientists from many different countries and addresses sources, fate, effects, and risks associated with pharmaceutical compounds entering our environment.

The USGS contributions include a review on the occurrence of human-health pharmaceuticals in water resources of the United States and a summary of agricultural use and environmental occurrence of veterinary pharmaceuticals in the United States. These two chapters include research supported by the Emerging Contaminants in the Environment Investigation of the USGS’s Toxic Substances Hydrology Program.
