PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Alliance for Learning and Vision for Underrepresented Americans

[Students Grade 12]
[Available: Nationally]

Alliance for Learning and Vision for Underrepresented Americans, or ALVA, promotes industry-college-community partnerships to improve minority participation in engineering and science. ALVA at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory is a partnership between JPL and the Pacific Alliance, a consortium of colleges and universities that serve Pacific-rim Native Americans, including native Hawaiians and native Alaskans.

ALVA offers a paid nine- to 10-week summer internship to eligible students who are interested in pursuing studies in engineering, computer science, physical sciences or mathematics. The internship consists of 30 hours each week of high-technology work assignments, augmented by 10 hours of workshops to promote excellence in mathematics.

Eligibility: A participant must have been accepted into one of the institutions in the consortium and be recommended by his or her selected college or university for the project.
