Provides data from the National Crime Victimization Survey and the Uniform
Crime Reports to summarize levels and rates of violent and property crimes
against persons age 65 or older. The Report (NCJ 176352) is available
in various formats from the Bureau of Justice Statistics.
Elder Abuse Fatality Review Teams: A Replication Manual (June 2005)
Developed by the American Bar Association and funded by OVC, this publication
provides guidance to communities interested in establishing similar teams.
Elder abuse fatality review teams review deaths caused by or related to elder
abuse and can improve the response of community agencies to elder abuse victims.

This video (NCJ 198153) highlights financial crime against the elderly, educates viewers on
all aspects of elder financial fraud, and serves as a template for agencies interested
in creating a F.A.S.T. team in their own communities.

This handbook for law enforcement officers (NCJ 189631) describes how
to approach and help different types of crime victims. It is designed
as a field guide for personnel who respond first to crime victims and
includes contacts for assistance. Also available in other

Improving the Police Response to Domestic Elder Abuse (September
1993)
Instructor (NCJ 147558) and Participant Training Manual (NCJ 148831)
These OVC training manuals teach the legal mandates related to police officers,
the process of aging, and aspects of elder abuse that police may encounter. The
Participant's manual also focuses on improving the police response to domestic
elder abuse. Both manuals offer practical information that can be applied to
police encounters with elder abuse victims, suspects, and witnesses. Also included
are training resources, model police response and investigation procedures, and

In the Spotlight: Family Violence (July 2003)
The bibliography from NCJRS lists publications from various government agencies and national organizations on child physical and sexual abuse, child neglect and maltreatment, intimate partner violence, and elder abuse. This Web-based resource also covers legislation, programs, technical assistance, and grants and funding resources.
Our Aging Population: Promoting Empowerment, Preventing Victimization,
and Implementing Coordinated Interventions (December 2000)
Reports on a national symposium on elder victimization, which featured
approaches to bringing together professionals from the public safety,
social service, and health care fields. This OJP report (NCJ 186256) provides
a detailed summary of all the sessions and includes short descriptions
of the featured programs. The symposium was sponsored by the U.S. Department
of Justice and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

of Victim Assistance Funding Opportunities 2001 (September
2001)
This resource directory (NCJ 189218) lists, by state and territory, the
contact names and information for federally funded crime victim assistance
programs, as well as particulars on grant programs that help state and
local agencies prepare for and respond to incidents of domestic terrorism
and criminal mass casualty.
Partnering With Faith Communities to Provide Elder Fraud Prevention, Intervention, and Victim Services (April 2006)
This publication (NCJ 213340), discusses the Communities Against Senior Exploitation (CASE) program, developed to address the increasingly significant problem of elder fraud; replication of the widely successful CASE initiative Denver model; and results from a survey distributed to evaluate the effectiveness of the CASE partnership.
Telemarketing Fraud Prevention, Public Awareness, and Training Activities

This OVC fact sheet (FS 000214) describes four innovative projects funded
by OVC to prevent and intervene in telemarketing fraud schemes that target
elderly citizens. These include the Elder Financial Exploitation Prevention
Program; the Telemarketing Fraud Project for Latino Elderly; Operation
Fraudstop; and Telemarketing Fraud Prevention, Public Awareness, and
Training Activities.

of the Elderly: National Victim Assistance Academy 2002
The NVAA text emphasizes foundations in victimology and victims' rights and services,
as well as new developments in the field of victim assistance, and includes a
chapter on elder abuse.
Working with Victims of Crime with Disabilities (September 1998)
This bulletin (NCJ 172838) presents recommendations on improving services
to crime victims with disabilities, based on discussion at an OVC-funded
2-day symposium of victim assistance providers and related professionals.
The bulletin identifies issues, service gaps, and barriers to access;
recommends needed changes; and spotlights successful programs and promising
practices that reach and serve crime victims with disabling conditions.
