Before the raw data from the ASCA spacecraft can be distributed to
observers, it must be processed into useable form.
This done by means of a set of UNIX shell scripts which call
various ftools and other routines.
Screening Criteria
Standard screening criteria are applied in processing to produce filtered
event files. The
current screening criteria
are described within the documentation listed below.
The previously used
rev1 screening criteria
are also documented below.
What You Can Find Here
The steps involved in the processing,
the files produced, and the
routines used
are documented in these Web pages.
Each major revision of the standard processing is documented separately
with links provided below. Detailed change information is also given
within each revision.
Revision 0
The original processing. If you have old data, it may have been
processed this way. The pages for this revision are under
construction and may not ever give a complete description.
If you have revision 0 data
you should obtain a more recently processed version from
the
ASCA archive.
Revision 1
This version was in use until August 1996.
Revision 1+
This version was used between August 1996 and June 19, 1997.
This was a bridge between rev1 and rev2 which
used the same screening criteria and
produced nearly the same data products as revision 1, but used the
scripts of revision 2 and had some of its benefits.
Revision 2
This is the current version of processing (since June 29, 1997).
For more information on the data products from rev2 and an overview
of the major changes from rev1, you can also see the
ASCA Getting Started Guide.
