November 2006 Update to NOAA SQuiRT Cards
The highly popular Screening Quick Reference Tables, or SQuiRT cards, were updated in November 2006 to include changes in EPA's Ambient Water Quality Criteria (AWQC) for cadmium, copper, and tin. Some other minor changes, plus some additions, were also made but the major revisions occur on pages 3 and 4.
The SQuiRT cards are a 12-page, handy reference tool that presents screening guidelines for inorganic and organic contaminants in soil, sediment, and water. Download and distribution of the SQuiRT cards, through the Office of Response and Restoration's Web site, has reached into the tens of thousands. Users from all over the world are now downloading and using the SQuiRT cards. They have even been incorporated into curriculum for graduate-level university courses.
More to come . . .
This is only an interim update to the SQuiRT card set to correct some outdated AWQC. A major overhaul of the SQuiRT cards is in progress and should be announced within months. This overhaul will add guidelines for many new contaminants, add missing guidelines for some existing contaminants, and will attempt to provide more specific references for each value listed.
