Title:  High Speed Civil Transport in 14x22 Foot Wind Tunnel
Description:  A NASA technician (Michael E. Ramsey) inspects a high-speed civil transport model between wind tunnel tests at NASA's Langley Research Center, Hampton, Virginia. Aerodynamic tests of the 19-foot (5.7m) model in the 14- by 22-Foot Subsonic Tunnel simulate takeoff and landing of a 300-passenger supersonic commercial transport that would cruise at Mach 2.4 (approximately 1,600 mph/2,560 kph). Designated "Reference H," the concept was designed by Boeing and presently serves as a common configuration for government-industry technology studies. Langley is NASA's lead center for the agency's High Speed Research program, aimed at developing technology to help U.S. industry compete in the rapidly expanding trans-oceanic transport market. A. U.S. high-speed civil transport is expected to fly in about the year 2010.
