Signing Ceremony Scheduled for September 28, in Birmingham BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- Protecting workers from laceration, back and hand injuries is the goal of a new alliance between the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the American Subcontractors Association. A signing ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 28, at The Club in Birmingham OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative partnerships. "This alliance will help employers and employees recognize conditions that lead to back, hand and laceration injuries and develop skills to reduce those hazards," said Roberto Sanchez, OSHA's Birmingham area director. "According to an association survey of member companies, these are the three most prevalent injuries suffered by their employees."
Since 2001, the U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has created more than 160 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace. OSHA's role is to assure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
