Volunteer service is an important and rewarding experience for everyone involved—both the volunteer and the receiving community. We all have unique skills and experiences that can be shared with others in need. Anyone can volunteer, and your service to the community will undoubtedly make a lasting difference in the lives of those you meet along the way.

The New Americans Project is an initiative of the Task Force on New Americans that seeks to encourage volunteerism among all Americans, including U.S. citizens and those who are new to the country. President George W. Bush established the Task Force on New Americans on June 7, 2006 in an effort to strengthen the efforts of federal, state, and local agencies in providing immigrants the information they need to embrace the common core of American civic culture, learn English, and fully become American. The New Americans Project will help promote volunteer opportunities for those interested in helping newcomers adjust to life in the United States and opportunities for newcomers to get involved in their communities through volunteer service.

Choose your category below to find a volunteer opportunity in your area!

New Americans

Find a volunteer opportunity to help you learn more about your community and life in the United States.  Many Americans volunteer a few hours each week or month with a local school, church, neighborhood association, hospital or other organizations. Become a volunteer and help America!

U.S. Citizens

Support the New Americans Project by helping immigrants and newcomers learn English, learn about America, and settle in the United States. Use the search box below to find an opportunity to teach an English class, teach American history and civics, or help an immigrant settle in his or her new community.
