EPA Delivers Hazardous Waste Clean-Up Information to Your Desktop
We live in an information society and EPA understands that site owners and other persons involved in cleanup activities need access to a variety of information formats. EPA developed the Hazardous Waste Clean-Up Information (CLU-IN) website to provide useful information about innovative treatment and site characterization technologies and to serve as a forum for the hazardous waste remediation community. CLU-IN users, by logging on to the website, gain instant access to a wealth of resources pertaining to hazardous waste remediation and link directly to thousands of publications and tools that may be of interest to Federal and state personnel, consulting engineers, technology developers and vendors, remediation contractors, researchers, community groups, and individual citizens.
Everyone in waste remediation will find CLU-IN particularly useful because it offers several opportunities including a chance to participate in partnerships and initiatives dedicated to developing innovative approaches and technologies. CLU-IN users can also subscribe to free print and e-mail newsletters to stay abreast of the latest developments in innovative treatment and site characterization technologies.
CLU-IN has served the hazardous waste remediation community since 1987, when EPA unveiled the CLU-IN Bulletin Board System (BBS). Since the launch of the CLU-IN website in 1996, the number of visitors has grown substantially, with more than 2.8 million page requests and over 50,000 user hours in FY 2004 alone. In the past nine years, CLU-IN has evolved to offer new information, features, and services to a growing list of users. Some examples of this growing commitment to deliver innovative technical information and learning opportunities to desktops of remediation practitioners include: (1) live internet seminars covering technical topics related to hazardous waste characterization, monitoring, and remediation; (2) streaming videos on a range of innovative site characterization and treatment topics; and (3) the TechDirect information service highlighting new publications and events of interest to hazardous waste remediation professionals. Currently, over 22,000 subscribers receive TechDirect's monthly e-mail message.
