ARLINGTON, Texas -- Providing better workplace safety for employees working on the Cowboys Stadium is the goal of a new partnership signed today in Arlington, Texas, among the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Manhattan Construction Co., Rayco Inc. and 3i Construction LLP. OSHA Strategic Partnerships for Worker Safety and Health are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers through cooperative relationships with trade associations, labor organizations and employers. OSHA's area office in Austin, Texas, will represent the federal agency in the partnership. "This agreement provides an opportunity for the partners to come together and build on the value of safety and health for employees working at the Cowboys stadium construction project," said Frank Strasheim, OSHA's acting regional administrator in Dallas. "The partnership is consistent with OSHA's long-range effort to develop a business-government approach to safety and health management." The partnership is designed to address construction industry hazards. OSHA identifies the top four causes of fatalities in this industry as falls, being struck by equipment or machinery, electrocution and caught-in-between equipment. One of the goals of the partnership is to achieve a job site with "Zero Lost Work Time" due to accidents. The project is scheduled for completion by the summer of 2009. Under the terms of the agreement, participants will establish proactive measures to provide a safe and healthful work environment for employees involved in the construction industry. Participants will also help to prevent serious accidents and fatalities within the industry through increased training, implementation of best work practices, enhanced safety and health programs and compliance with applicable OSHA standards and regulations.
