James Monroe (1817-1825) – release date February 14, 2008
This fifth President of the United States was, according to Thomas Jefferson, “so honest that if you turned his soul inside out there would not be a spot on it.”

 John Quincy Adams (1825-1829) – release date May 15, 2008
The sixth President of the United States and son of the second President, John Adams, he later served in the House of Representatives and died in the Speaker’s Room after suffering a stroke on the floor of the House in 1848. 
Andrew Jackson (1829-1837) – release date August 14, 2008
Known as “Old Hickory,” this seventh President of the United States was a major general during the War of 1812, and became a national hero when he defeated the British at New Orleans. 

Martin Van Buren (1837- 1841) – release date November 13, 2008
Only 5 feet 6 inches tall, this eighth President of the United States was the son of a Dutch tavern keeper and farmer, and was President Andrew Jackson’s most trusted advisor.

The 2008 First Spouse Gold Coins 

The 2008 First Spouse Gold Coins feature Elizabeth Monroe, Louisa Adams, Andrew Jackson’s Liberty, and Martin Van Buren’s Liberty.

The First Spouse Gold Coin obverse features portraits of the Nation’s first spouses, their names, the dates and order of their term as first spouse, the year of minting or issuance, "In God We Trust," and "Liberty."  Each coin has a unique reverse design featuring an image emblematic of that spouse’s life and work, as well as the inscriptions "The United States of America," "E Pluribus Unum," "$10," "1/2 oz." and ".9999 Fine Gold."

When a president served without a first spouse, as did Andrew Jackson and Martin Van Buren, a gold coin is issued bearing an obverse image emblematic of Liberty as depicted on a circulating coin of that era and a reverse image emblematic of themes of that president’s life.
