President George W. Bush will meet Mildred Brisker when he arrives in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday, October 31, 2004. Brisker, 89, is an active volunteer with the Foster Grandparent Program in Tampa.

President Bush hascalled on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Brisker, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

As a foster grandparent volunteer for the past 22 years, Brisker has contributed over 20,000 hours of volunteer service. Brisker volunteers five days a week at the after-school program at Lowry Elementary School helping children with homework and playing games. She is known by the children and teachers as “Grandma.” Brisker has also volunteered at other organizations in the community, including serving as a docent at the Plant Museum, helping with handicapped parking enforcement with the sheriff’s office, and assisting with numerous charity fundraisers.
