President George W. Bush met Nicole Cox upon arrival in Alamogordo, New Mexico, on Sunday, October 24, 2004. Cox, 14, is an active volunteer with the Oro Vista Volunteer Fire Department in Alamogordo.

President George W. Bush will meet Nicole Cox when he arrives in Alamogordo, New Mexico, on Sunday, October 24, 2004. Cox, 14, is an active volunteer with the Oro Vista Volunteer Fire Department in Alamogordo.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and he created USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Cox, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

For the past four years, Cox has been one of two junior members of the Oro Vista Volunteer Fire Department. She helps inspect equipment, wash fire trucks, practice emergency procedures, and responds to calls whenever department volunteers are paged. Cox also attends weekly firehouse meetings and practice drills on weekends. She has taken classes to learn about first aid, emergency vehicles, hazardous materials, and firefighting.

Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
