President Bush to Recognize Pennsylvania Woman for Dedication to Volunteer Service

President George W. Bush met Charlotte Huber upon arrival in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, October 21, 2004. Huber, 65, is an active volunteer with Olivia’s House, a grief and loss center for children in York County.

President George W. Bush will meet Charlotte Huber when he arrives in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Thursday, October 21, 2004. Huber, 65, is an active volunteer with Olivia’s House, a grief and loss center for children in York County.

President Bush has called on all Americans to volunteer two years or 4,000 hours over the course of their lifetimes, and hecreated USA Freedom Corpsto help foster a culture of service, citizenship, and responsibility. Since March 2002, President Bush has met with more than 350 individuals around the country, like Huber, who are answering the call to volunteer service.

Huber volunteers as a companion for children and adults who are going through an eight-week program at Olivia’s House called Hearts Can Heal. The center’s educational programs help children and their parents cope with the death of a parent, sibling, or close friend in a comforting and supportive environment. Huber also helps with administrative work at Olivia’s House and performs community outreach by speaking to local churches and civic groups about the program.

Through USA Freedom Corps, President Bush wants to help every American answer the Call to Service by strengthening and expanding service opportunities to protect our homeland, support our communities, and extend American compassion around the world. Interested volunteers can find information at www.usafreedomcorps.gov or by calling 1-877-USA-CORPS.
