U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission, Alaska Chapter of Ninety-Nines Sign Licensing Agreement
Organization of female pilots to commemorate 100 years of powered flight

Washington, D.C.
April 24, 2003

The U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission, which was Congressionally mandated to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Wright brothers' first powered flight, and the Alaska Chapter of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots have entered into a licensing agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, the Alaska Chapter of the Ninety-Nines will be able to use the Commission logo on a mug to celebrate both the 100th anniversary of flight and the 50th anniversary of the Alaska Chapter's founding.

The mug being produced by the Ninety-Nines will be sold exclusively by members of the Chapter. All proceeds will be used to offset the costs of a traveling display that has been created to celebrate the centennial of flight.

The Ninety-Nines organization was founded in 1929 by 99 licensed female pilots for mutual support in the advancement of aviation. Today, the group includes more than 6,000 members in more than 35 countries. Headquartered in Oklahoma City, Okla., its members include commercial, government and private pilots, technicians and mechanics who love to fly. More information about the Ninety-Nines can be found online at http://www.ninety-nines.org.

The U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission is coordinating a national outreach campaign for the Centennial of Flight: Born of Dreams - Inspired by Freedom celebration, and advising the President, Congress and federal agencies on the most effective ways to encourage and promote national and international participation in the yearlong commemoration. More information about the Commission and the events taking place throughout the country can be found on the U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission Web site at http://www.centennialofflight.gov.
