Organizations Will Work Together to Promote 100th Anniversary of Powered Flight
Washington, D.C.
April 14, 2003
The U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission (COFC)
and AirsideTV, have signed a memorandum of agreement to jointly
publicize the yearlong celebration of the 100th anniversary of the
first powered flight. As a result of this agreement, AirsideTV,
a subsidiary of NetsideTV Company, Ltd., will promote the Commission's
national campaign, Centennial of Flight: Born of Dreams - Inspired
by Freedom through Web-based programming and live Web coverage
of centennial of flight events on both AirsideTV.com and the U.S.
Centennial of Flight Commission Web site.
"We are honored to have been selected by the U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission," said Paul Brennan, co-founder and director of programming for AirsideTV. "Just like the Wright brothers made history 100 years ago, we're doing the same with our revolutionary online coverage of the Centennial of Flight celebration."
AirsideTV offers 24-hour streaming video of a wide variety of aviation topics including air shows, modern and historic aviation documentaries, and aviation news. In February 2003, AirsideTV began promoting the centennial of flight with their first Centennial of Flight video program featuring the oldest flying aircraft in the world, Mikael Carlson's Bleriot XI. They have also have produced a video feature on the Lancaster bomber, including an interview with pilots who flew the aircraft in combat during World War II. In addition, AirsideTV will soon feature coverage of the Sun-N-Fun Fly-in in Lakeland, Fla.
AirsideTV has plans to cover more centennial-related
events, including EAA's AirVenture in Oshkosh, Wis., and North Carolina's
First Flight Centennial Celebration in December. On December 17
in North Carolina, AirsideTV.com will broadcast live the attempt
to re-create the Wright brother's first flight from Kill Devil Hills.
AirsideTV is currently the only Web-based broadcaster offering consistent
and live coverage of Centennial events. "AirsideTV offers a unique
opportunity for those with access to the Internet to view the Centennial
of Flight celebration as it unfolds throughout the year," said General
J.R. Dailey, chairman of the U.S. Centennial of Flight Commission.
"Their efforts are helping us deliver educational and inspirational
content to an even larger audience."
The U.S. Congress created the COFC to coordinate
the celebration of the 100th anniversary of powered flight. The
national awareness campaign, Centennial of Flight: Born of Dreams
- Inspired by Freedom, promotes activities which commemorate
the past 100 years of flight. Organizations that work closely with
the COFC will receive recognition as participants in the national
campaign.
