Web Sites Included in this Web Guide

Because there is an incredible amount of information related to EBPs currently available online, a search and selection process was necessary to find appropriate sites.

Identifying Web Sites

To ensure that the methods of identifying potential Web sites to be included in this Web Guide were comprehensive and transparent, the following steps were taken:

• Searches were conducted on the Google, Yahoo, AltaVista, and DogPile search engines using a standard list of search terms. For a complete list of search terms available in PDF version, please click here.

• Each of the first 100 sites returned using these terms were examined for their relevance.

• Each relevant site’s outgoing links were followed for additional pertinent Web sites that may not have been returned in search results.

• Links to additional Web sites were solicited from SAMHSA staff and through professional listservs.

Criteria for Web Sites

Identified sites were compared to the following criteria:

• Sites should provide information about specific effective interventions.

• Sites should identify multiple EBPs.

• All primary links should be functional.

• Information about interventions should not be exclusively in PDF form.

• Sites should not charge fees for use.

Sites which did not meet all of the criteria were excluded. Users should note that while all primary links on the featured Web sites were functional during the final review of the Web Guide. this does not guarantee that all links are currently active, as changes may have been made by the maintaining or hosting organizations.

Site Descriptions

The site descriptions in this Web Guide are organized into two main categories: Behavioral Health Area and Intended Age Group. These categories provide a clear and simple way to search for information by topic or audience.

• Site descriptions are presented alphabetically by the name of the organization(s) responsible for maintaining the site.

• Each Web site entry contains the following information:

• Organization(s) name who sponsors the initiative or maintains the Web site

• Web address for the organization or highlighted EBP

• A statement of the site’s purpose and intended audience(s) taken from the site’s text

• Bulleted text points to provide more in depth information about the features of each Web site. Solid bullets (•) indicate that a feature applies to all listed EBPs, while open bullets (•) indicate that a feature applies only to some.

• Features that may be listed as bulleted points are:

• Defines EBPs: Provides a specific definition of EBPs and/or evidentiary standards

• Intended for specific audience: Stakeholders the site has been designed to help as noted in site text

• Provides descriptions of interventions: Explains the details of listed EBPs

• Transparent Reviews: Sources of evidence and review processes are clearly documented

• Describes evidentiary standards met: Standards of evidence listed EBPs have been measured against

• Describes intervention implementation: Provides information on organizational, infrastructural, and other resources needed to properly implement listed EBPs
