Robert E. McFadden began his Bureau career in April 1985 as a Correctional Officer at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI), Phoenix, AZ. He went on to hold positions of increasing responsibility at CCMs Minneapolis, MN and Baltimore, MD; the Federal Medical Center, Rochester, MN; FCI Tucson, AZ; and the Metropolitan Correctional Center, San Diego, CA. He was first named Warden at the Federal Prison Camp, Yankton, SD in August 2000, then served as Senior Deputy Regional Director of the Southeast Region from December 2001 to April 2003. Mr. McFadden subsequently served as Warden at FCI Jesup, GA and at the U.S. Medical Center for Federal Prisoners, Springfield, MO, the latter from September 2004 until being named Regional Director of the Western Region on April 28, 2006.

During his Bureau career, Mr. McFadden has received several Bureau awards, including an Assistant Director's Award in 1992. He received an appointment to the Senior Executive Service in October 2003.

Mr. McFadden received Associates degrees in Liberal Arts (A.A.) and Criminology (A.A.S.) from Glendale Community College in Glendale, AZ in 1980; and served as an intern/research planner for the Arizona Department of Public Safety in Phoenix, AZ from 1981-82. He received a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminology/Training and Development from Grand Canyon College in Phoenix, AZ in 1982; and participated in graduate studies in Criminology at Arizona State University from 1983-85.
