Mr. Maldonado began his career with the Bureau in 1979 as a correctional officer at FCI El Reno, OK. He subsequently served in positions of increasing responsibility at FCI La Tuna (two non-consecutive tours of duty at this location), FCI Talladega, MCC New York, FCI Three Rivers, and FCI Bastrop. He was first selected to serve as Associate Warden at FPC El Paso, then at USP Leavenworth. Mr. Maldonado was later named Warden of FCI Estill and served as Warden at USP Atlanta from June 2004 until August 2005, when he assumed his current position.

Mr. Maldonado is a native of west Texas. He attended the University of El Paso, where he pursued a degree in criminal justice. He received the 2002 Federal Bureau of Prisons' New Warden of the Year Award.
