The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Marine Biological Laboratory, Virginia Institute of Marine Science, The Horn Point Laboratory, and University of Connecticut co-sponsored the special session "Prediction and Understanding: Model Approaches, Applications and Performance" at the Estuarine Research Federation's 19th Biennial International Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, on November 4-8, 2007. The session provied a venue for discussion of how modelers, and the managers who use models or model results, can achieve or improve confidence in their application. Papers on innovative modeling approaches, predictability, novel validation/evaluation techniques, and examples of current uses of models in the coastal environment were presented. USGS Presentations
