MEMORANDUM FOR CHIEF HUMAN CAPITAL OFFICERS

FROM:

Director

Hurricane Katrina

Many individuals in the Gulf Coast regions of Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, including the city of New Orleans, are already suffering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina, and many others along its projected path will likely be affected as Hurricane Katrina continues to move inland. Many parts of the Federal Government have been mobilized to respond to this disaster. The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) is extremely concerned about the health and safety of individuals whose lives may be affected by Hurricane Katrina.

OPM’s memorandum to heads of executive departments and agencies (CPM 2005-13, June 28, 2005 ) provides information on the human resources flexibilities a vailable to assist Federal employees affected by severe weather emergencies and natural disasters. We encourage you to make this information available to employees affected by Hurricane Katrina. OPM’s memorandum is available at http://www.opm.gov/oca/compmemo/2005/2005-13.asp.

For additional assistance, please contact your assigned OPM Human Capital Officer. Employees should contact their agency human resources offices for assistance.
