Projects for Assistance in Transition from Homelessness (PATH)

  SAMHSA provides a wide array of technical assistance support to the 50 States and 6 Territories that receive PATH funding. Technical assistance is provided to support specific service modalities (e.g., outreach, case management) and effective planning strategies through on site training, conferences and workshops, and web-based and teleconferencing supports.

  The only national center specifically focused on the effective organization and delivery of services for people who are homeless and have serious mental illnesses.

  SAMHSA in partnership with HRSA, the Administration for Children and Families, the US Departments of Housing and Urban Development and Veterans Affairs provides technical assistance to State teams that have participated in Policy Academies on homelessness.

SAMHSA has sponsored the publication of documents that give practical information on how states and communities can effectively meet the needs of persons who are homeless and have mental illnesses and or substance use disorders and end homelessness.

  The Blueprint for Change is a report that reflects action steps that States and communities can take to prevent or end homelessness among people with serious mental illnesses, including those with co-occurring substance use disorders.

  The Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, in collaboration with the Department of Housing and Urban Development, established a Work Group on Ending Chronic Homelessness. The Work Group was charged to develop a comprehensive approach for the Department to better serve persons who are homeless.
