GIH Fall Forum November 20-21

Join GIH in Washington, DC, for the 2008 Fall Forum, the time each year when we focus our energies on issues at the intersection of health policy and health philanthropy. The meeting will feature two Issue Dialogues: Effective Community Programs to Fight Health Disparities and Rural Health Care: Innovations in Policy and Practice. The Fall Forum will also include the plenary session "Reflections on the 2008 Elections: What Do the Results Mean for Health and Health Care?" Post-Election Briefing for Grantmakers

Grantmakers Income Security Taskforce; Grantmakers for Children, Youth & Families; and GIH invite you to attend a Post-Election Briefing for Grantmakers on December 2-3. This timely briefing will inform grantmakers about the priorities of the new Administration and Congress and provide funders with an opportunity to help inform, shape, and influence agendas that advance philanthropic work.

Did you know that GIH has built a searchable database on the work of health philanthropy, which covers a broad range of health issues and includes more than 18,000 grants and initiatives from over 400 foundations and corporate giving programs? The Resource Center Database, accessed through the Funding Partner Network on the GIH Web site, connects health funders around common focus areas. Explore grants and initiatives by program area, populations served, or type of support to learn about different strategies funders are using. Search for individuals or other foundations with mutual interests. Share your organization’s work or program contacts by submitting details directly to the database. Make use of this valuable resource and log on today!

Save the Date: 2009 Annual Meeting on Health Philanthropy

Save the date for GIH's 2009 Annual Meeting on Health Philanthropy Seeing the Future with 20/20 Vision, which will take place March 18-20 in New Orleans, Louisiana. More information about the meeting will be available on the GIH Web site in December.

Creating Public Will to End Racial and Ethnic Health Disparities

Each year disparities in health status and health care take a toll on members of racial and ethnic minority groups that translates into preventable illness and death. This Issue Focus highlights key points from a GIH meeting, sponsored by the Connecticut Health Foundation, which examined how to create public will to decrease health disparities in access and treatment.
 

Critical Condition to Premiere September 30

Critical Condition, an eye-opening documentary on the health care crisis in America, will premiere on PBS stations Tuesday, September 30 (check local listings). Complimentary DVDs of the documentary were provided to GIH 2008 annual meeting attendees courtesy of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.
