Can I call ahead and make an appointment to conduct business at Social Security?
  Question
If I need to do business with Social Security, can I call ahead and make an appointment?
  Answer

Yes, appointments are available for most business with Social Security.  We encourage people to call ahead for an appointment.  Frequently you will find that you do not need to visit an office as the business can be conducted by telephone, either immediately when you call to make the appointment, or at a later date by telephone contact with an employee at the local field office.  Our 800 number agents are trained to handle many calls to completion, without the need for a referral.  We also have Immediate Claims Taking Units with employees who can complete your claim for many benefits when you initially call, without the need for a later appointment.  To complete your business or make an appointment, call Social Security's toll-free number, 1-800-772-1213.
