On September 12th, 2008, Jean Case, Chair of the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation, discussed USA Freedom Corps and ways the President has helped Americans answer the call to serve on "Ask the White House".
9/8/2008 Fact Sheet: USA Freedom Corps: Strengthening Service to Meet Community Needs
On September 8th, 2008, President Bush hosted a White House event highlighting the accomplishments of USA Freedom Corps, the volunteer initiative launched as part of a national Call to Service after the attacks of 9/11 to help more Americans connect with opportunities to serve their neighbors in need. The President honored the work of America's armies of compassion and repeated his call for Americans to devote 4,000 hours – or two years, in service to our country over their lifetimes.

9/3/2008 Peace Corps Fellows/USA Partners with Bowling Green State University
The Peace Corps recently welcomed the Bowling Green State University (BGSU), in Bowling Green, Ohio, as its newest Fellows/USA partner school. The campus joins almost 50 other institutions in offering the Fellows/USA option to returned Peace Corps Volunteers. BGSU's program, housed in the School of Leadership and Policy, will grant successful Fellows master's degrees in Cross-Cultural and International Education.

As tens of thousands of Gulf Coast residents fled Hurricane Gustav’s destructive path last weekend, hundreds of AmeriCorps members and Senior Corps volunteers were on hand to assist in the evacuation and set up and staff emergency shelters.

As Hurricane Gustav evacuees by the thousands head for safety, volunteers are needed to staff shelters and feeding programs in Louisiana, Texas, and Mississippi. Local volunteers are already helping, but more are needed.
8/28/2008 A Legacy To Remember
For Ted Pack of Hughson, Calif., who joined the Peace Corps in 1970, having a daughter who would pursue the Peace Corps 38 years later was a big surprise. However, as the agency approaches its 50th anniversary, more and more second and even third generation Peace Corps Volunteers heed the call to service that their parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles did before them. Now married with three children, Ted's oldest daughter, Heather Pack, decided to follow in her father's footsteps and join the Peace Corps.
