Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association MADISON, Wis. -- The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Wisconsin Ready Mixed Concrete Association (WRMCA), and the state of Wisconsin have entered into a new statewide alliance to reduce and eliminate worker exposures to silica, ergonomic hazards, falls and other safety and health hazards. OSHA alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers. Alliances provide an opportunity to cooperate with OSHA on training and education, outreach and communication, and promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health. The alliance was signed by OSHA area offices in Eau Claire, Appleton, Madison and Milwaukee. Joining in the initiative, which will remain in effect for three years, are the Wisconsin Safety Consultation Bureau and the Wisconsin Health Consultation Program. "This alliance will increase safety and health awareness, create an atmosphere of cooperation and assistance, and strengthen professional relationships founded on collaboration and trust," said Madison OSHA Area Director Kimberly Stille. The three organizations will disseminate information on OSHA recordkeeping requirements, fall protection, driver wellness, and ergonomics. The alliance will provide WRMCA members with information on best practices to protect workers' safety and health and access to training resources. Members will participate at conferences and public forums to share information and help forge innovative solutions to improve safety and health in the workplace. Justin J. Kratochvil, co-chair of WRMCA's Operations, Environmental and Safety (OES) Committee said, "The WRMCA OES committee is excited about joining this alliance. First, this alliance will provide tools, training and education for employees with the goal of further reducing injuries and illnesses within the ready mix industry. Secondly, the alliance provides the opportunity to develop an ongoing working relationship between the membership of the WRMCA and OSHA." The U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration has created more than 240 alliances with organizations committed to fostering safety and health in the workplace. Employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthful workplace for their employees. OSHA's role is to ensure the safety and health of America's workers by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach, and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual improvement in workplace safety and health.
