TVA Names New Transmission Executive, Creates New Power Supply & Fuels Organization

CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. — TVA has named Rob Manning, who has 30 years experience in the electric utility industry and is currently serving as vice president of field operations in Duke Energy’s Power Delivery business, to head TVA’s transmission organization.

As executive vice president of TVA’s Power Systems Operations, Manning will be responsible for the reliable delivery of electric power throughout the TVA region, which includes planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of the nation’s largest public power supply network. He will join TVA Aug. 18 and will report to Chief Operating Officer Bill McCollum. He will be based in Chattanooga.

“Rob Manning’s depth of knowledge of the electric utility business and experience in other utility business operations will give him a broad perspective on TVA’s transmission system and the challenges we face,” said McCollum. “I know him to be an impressive leader who is focused on employees, customers and results and who is strongly committed to a safe workplace.”

Manning joined Duke in 1978 as an electrical engineer and has held increasingly responsible positions in the transmission and distribution areas of Duke’s electric and gas businesses. Currently, he leads the operation of all transmission and distribution systems in Duke’s Carolinas Region, which serves 2.2 million residential, commercial and industrial customers.

He has a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in business administration from Queens University in Charlotte. He is a registered professional engineer and currently resides in Huntersville, N.C.

Manning succeeds Terry Boston, who retired from TVA in January to become chief executive officer of the PJM Interconnection.

McCollum also announced the creation of Power Supply and Fuels, a new organization that will combine functions of the Commercial Operations and Fuels organization with power system planning. Van Wardlaw, who was senior vice president of Commercial Operations and Fuels, was promoted to executive vice president to lead the new organization in Chattanooga.

“In an era of high fuels costs and increasing demand for electricity, it makes sense to consolidate our power and fuel supply functions with planning,” said McCollum. “I’m delighted that we have an executive of Van Wardlaw’s caliber within TVA ready and able to assume this responsibility.”
