PURPOSE
The Technology Fellowship Program has been an integral part of the National Reconnaissance Office (NRO) Advanced Systems & Technology (AS&T) Directorate’s outreach efforts for over a decade. The objectives of the Technology Fellowship Program are to stimulate industry participation in R&D areas critical to the NRO and the Intelligence Community(IC), support the development of future technology leaders, and forge strategic relationships.
BACKGROUND
Annually, AS&T solicits project ideas from the IC to be included in a Broad Agency Announcement (BAA). Projects are selected based on their ability to enhance or leverage current capabilities while satisfying the intelligence and operational requirements of the NRO.
The Technology Fellowship Program is a jointly-funded program between AS&T and the industry sponsor. Upon placement, the government sponsor provides the Technology Fellow with the essential tools to accomplish his or her duties in an efficient and effective manner.
Technology Fellows are characterized as “fast-track” technologists ready for transition into management within their respective corporate structures. After one year in the program, they return to their companies with a comprehensive understanding of the needs, business practices, and key personalities behind the IC process.
BECOME A TECHNOLOGY FELLOW
Being a Technology Fellow is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Technology Fellows work hand-in-hand with leaders at the highest levels of government. They enjoy informal, off the record meetings with leading representatives from the world of business, the arts, science and technology, media, and politics. Technology Fellows travel abroad to explore issues of global significance.
PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
Up to 80 percent of the Fellowship is spent working directly for the host organization on a designated project. The Technology Fellows Enrichment Program constitutes the remaining 20 percent of the Fellowship year. The Technology Fellows Enrichment Program is intended to broaden the Technology Fellow’s understanding of government interactions and operations. Each program year, Technology Fellows are allowed some degree of flexibility to tailor the group’s enrichment activities. These activities include:
- Overviews and tours of government agencies and facilities
- Program overviews and tours of prime contractor facilities
- Visits with military customers
- Tours of national laboratories
