Record Shows 21 Million Work Hours Without a Fatality or Serious Injury DALLAS -- The U. S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has recognized the Dallas/Fort Worth Airport Capital Development Program for its contribution to worker safety and health in the community. "This organization has consistently shown a high level of commitment to safety and health of construction workers in the Dallas/Fort Worth area, particularly to the Spanish-speaking community," said John Miles, OSHA regional administrator in Dallas. "We encourage other companies to follow their example." The Dallas/Fort Worth Development Program oversees construction and other development of the airport facilities including a 2-million square foot international terminal with a hotel and a high-speed train. The program was awarded the OSHA Regional Administrator's Outstanding Safety Contribution Award which recognizes organizations that contribute to safety and health through training, activities, and resources. Key safety accomplishments of the program have included operating the airport's Terminal D, Skylink and other construction projects for 21 million work-hours without a fatality or serious accident; consistently maintaining an accident incident rate below the national average; requiring construction safety training in both English and Spanish through the Construction Education Foundation of North Texas; and establishing an alliance with the OSHA Fort Worth area office to promote professional development of contractor safety personnel through the Occupational Health and Safety Technologist Certification Workshop. Alliances enable organizations to cooperate with OSHA in preventing injuries and illnesses in the workplace. They are a means for participating organizations to network with others committed to workplace safety and health and exchange information about addressing workplace hazards.
