Administrative Record (AR)

The AR is the body of documents and information that is considered or relied upon to arrive at a final decision for remedial action or hazardous waste management. An AR is established for each operable unit (OU); treatment, storage, or disposal unit (TSD); or Expedited Response Action (ERA) group and will contain all documents having information considered in arriving at a Record of Decision or permit. Documents become part of the AR by a variety of means:
  • The information has been designated as an AR document by the Tri-Party Agreement , (Table 9-3, pages 9-11 - 9-12).
  • The Environmental Protection Agency; Washington State Department of Ecology; or the U.S. Department of Energy, Richland Operations Office Project Manager has identified the document for inclusion in the AR system.

Public Information Repository (PIR)

The necessity of keeping a collection of documents and information known as the PIR was established by the Community Relations Plan for the Federal Facility Agreement and Consent Order. Information needs to be readily available to the public to ensure meaningful participation. One mechanism for accomplishing this goal is the establishment of PIRs at major population centers. There are four PIR locations located outside of the Hanford Site and one onsite location. Documents being submitted for public comment are also processed through the PIR. Appendix B, Table I of the Community Relations Plan lists the types of items that are included in the PIRs. The Hanford Events Calendar provides a list of documents available for public review.
