Breaux Act Newsflash - LUMCON Science Teachers' Workshop

The Louisiana Universities Marine Consortium (LUMCON) is hosting the 2008
"From H-2-O: a water quality workshop for teachers" at the DeFelice Marine
Center in Cocodrie, October 3-5, 2008. Teachers who are interested in
applying must submit an application before the September 12, 2008, deadline.
Space is limited. The workshop is sponsored by the Barataria Terrebonne
National Estuary Program so the cost is free to those who attend. The focus
for the workshop is how to use LUMCON's Bayouside Classroom water sampling
program in the classroom to educate students about water quality issues of
the Barataria-Terrebonne Estuary complex. Any Louisiana science teacher is
encouraged to apply. We are inviting teachers who have never been trained
to use Bayouside Classroom, as well as, those who have been trained in the
past to attend as mentors. Every participant of the workshop will receive
free lodging and meals while at the marine center, a $300 water sampling
kit, teacher resources, CEUs, and much more. Educators interested in
