Abstract: This product consists of calibrated sea surface temperatures at 6km resolution from the NOAA Geostationary series of satellites (GOES). Data is obtained at a near real-time rate with 1 hour, 3 hour, and 24 hour gridded files of SST; 3 hour and 24 hour files are averages of the 1 hour derived SST values.

The Level 3 product includes data from both the GOES East (GOES-11) and GOES West (GOES-12) satellites. Separate 1 hour and 24 hour files exist for GOES-9 data. Data is processed at the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS). Included in the files are flags for ice, land, clouds, and sun glint. The major advantage of this data set is the geostationary coverage of the satellite which maximizes the number of cloud free pixels.
