  • CAST Continues Information Sharing Partnership

    As the Commercial Aviation Safety Team embarks on its second decade, it continues to explore new ways to improve safety information sharing and reduce fatal accidents. The Aviation Rulemaking Committee on Voluntary Safety Information Sharing expired in September. VSIS is being integrated with the CAST Aviation Safety Information and Analysis Sharing currently being developed to expand the information sharing partnership among manufacturers, operators, and analysts. ASIAS data collection and analysis processes will be coordinated by the MITRE Corp. under governance and guidance from industry and government.

  • CAST Nominated for Collier Trophy

    CAST was named runner-up to the 2006 Collier Trophy sponsored by the National Aeronautic Association. CAST was nominated by the Aerospace Industries Association for its outstanding achievement in dramatically improving the safety of commercial aviation and saving lives. Created in 1911, the Collier is considered the most prestigious of all aviation awards, granted each year "for the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America."

  • CAST Agrees to 19 New Safety Enhancements

    CAST added 18 new safety enhancements to its safety agenda at its November meeting in Washington. CAST now has 65 safety enhancements, of which 40 have been completed. A safety enhancement is the adoption of a procedure or training, or installation of equipment that will eliminate the cause of an accident.

  • FAA and ALPA Team on Safety Program

    The Air Line Pilot's Association, Intl., which represents 62,000 airline pilots in the United States and Canada, have teamed with the FAA in a program to educate pilots on how to minimize the risks of runway incursions. The interactive, multimedia course is designed to help pilots avoid and prevent runway incursions by studying the various factors involved. "Runway Safety" is online at www.alpa.org under the Safety/Security tab.
