Washington Matchmaking Event

Exploring Transatlantic Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Partnerships

Washington, DC, September 23rd 2008 The U.S. Department of Commerce, in cooperation with the European Commission, will be hosting a matchmaking event for U.S. and European companies in Washington, DC on September 23rd, at which new transatlantic RFID partnerships and/or technical exchanges will be explored. The event will take place following the Transatlantic Symposium on the Societal Benefits of RFID and the U.S. Federal Trade Commission’s workshop on RFID and privacy. The Department of Commerce and the European Commission hope that prospective partnerships will help to strengthen transatlantic cooperation on RFID technology, standards, and policy.

Who should participate?

European and American companies involved in the RFID industry

  • technology developers,
  • application developers,
  • systems integrators, and
  • application users

While the organizers welcome participation by companies of any size, the event especially will be beneficial to small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs).

Why participate?

The event will provide you with opportunities to make contact with potential business partners from across the Atlantic and to explore new transatlantic partnerships to develop and implement RFID technology.

Registration in the Matchmaking Event also opens up participation in two U.S.-EU RFID policymaking conferences.  A limited number of participants will be invited to attend the policy-focused Transatlantic RFID Symposium (September 22nd), an in-depth and transatlantic look at the potential societal benefits of RFID and associated policy needs (space is very limited – please sign up early to take advantage of this great opportunity). All participants will be invited to attend the Federal Trade Commission’s workshop on RFID and privacy on the morning of September 23rd at their New Jersey Avenue Conference Center.  And of course, matchmaking event participants will finish off the day with their one-on-one appointments with potential business partners from the other side of the Atlantic.  All of these events will provide you and your company with networking opportunities with leading manufacturers and users of RFID technology.

What Happens Next?

Registering your interest does not commit you to participation. Once you have registered your interest, you will be contacted by someone from the US Commercial Service to work together to match you with companies from across the Atlantic. A schedule of appointments with relevant companies will then be put together ahead of time so you will know before you arrive with whom you will be meeting.
