Graduate Partnerships Program

The purpose of the Graduate Partnerships Program (GPP) is to help foster the professional development of future scientists by providing the opportunity to perform research in National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) laboratories. Graduate or medical students at accredited U.S. universities or participating foreign universities work directly with top NHGRI researchers to perform all or part of their dissertation work, an integral part of their academic training (See: Graduate Partnerships Program).

Eligibility for the GPP depends on whether the graduate student is enrolled in an individual partnership or an institutional partnership. Students enrolled in institutional partnerships must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Students enrolled in individual partnerships can be U.S. citizens, permanent residents or foreign nationals currently enrolled in a Ph.D. program (See Graduate Partnership Program: Prospective Students.)

Participants in this program receive a stipend, based on their educational level and experience; partial travel allowances may also be available. Pre-Doctoral Intramural Research Training Awards are granted for one year, with the option of renewing for a second year, pending satisfactory performance and the availability of resources.

Information and applications for prospective graduate or medical students can be found at Graduate Partnership Program: Prospective Students..

Applications for this program are accepted throughout the calendar year.
