The Vacancy is due to the resignation of the Honorable J. Dennis Hastert (R-IL) from the Congress. The vacancy became effective on November 27, 2007.

Shimkus on March 13, 2008, before the Committee on Energy and Commerce that the Republican membership of the standing subcommittees of the Committee for the 110th Congress be changed as reflected in the list above. These changes filled the vacancy described in the above footnote.
