The Supporting Networks of HIV Care by Enhancing Primary Medical Care (SNHC by EPMC) project is a national technical assistance and capacity building project led by CAEAR Foundation (CAEAR) and its project partners, the Academy for Educational Development (AED) and the National Minority AIDS Council (NMAC). AED/CAEAR invites applications for ICB from primary care sites to support any range of technical assistance activities to help develop, improve, or expand their HIV primary medical care treatment capacity. In particular, the target organizations for this assistance are small to moderate-size nonprofit primary medical care sites in communities serving racial/ethnic minorities with a high burden of HIV disease and relatively few resources.

Applications must be received by September 18, 2007.
Scan of Cultural and Linguistic Services at Local Initiatives and County Organized Health Systems in California
This Request for Bids seeks a qualified individual, team or organization (“applicant”) to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the current best practices as well as challenges and limitations among the thirteen California local initiatives and county organized health systems in implementing cultural and linguistic services for their members.

External link Tobacco Policy Change: A Collaborative for Healthier Communities and States Exit Disclaimer
This grant provides resources and technical assistance for local, regional and state-based organizations and tribal groups to advocate for effective, sustainable policies that decrease tobacco use and exposure. This special solicitation will build on previous success in attracting new and diverse partners whose constituencies are most directly affected by tobacco use and exposure. Grantees are expected to apply their advocacy skills and experience to advance tobacco and other public health policies in their communities.

Deadline for receipt of planning proposals is September 14, 2007.

Emphasis is placed on research in and among three broad areas of action: 1) Public policy, 2) health care, and 3) disease/disability prevention. Particular attention is given to reducing “health gaps” among groups. Proposals that utilize an interdisciplinary approach, investigate multiple levels of analysis, incorporate a life-course perspective, and/or employ innovative methods such as system science or community-based participatory research are particularly encouraged.

pdf file Announcement of Availability of Funds for Adolescent Family Life (AFL) Demonstration Projects
These grants are for prevention demonstration projects to provide and evaluate innovative abstinence education activities and services targeting youth ages 9-18 and their parents. All AFL prevention demonstration projects must provide "abstinence education"’ as defined in section 510(b)(2)(A)-(H) of the Title V of the Social Security Act (‘‘the A-H criteria’’). Therefore, prevention demonstration projects must clearly and consistently promote premarital abstinence as the only 100% effective way of preventing adolescent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections (STIs), including HIV/AIDS.

The application deadline is 5 PM ET on June 1, 2007.
Community Partnerships to Eliminate Health Disparities Demonstration Grant Program
Approximately $5.8 million is available for new, competitive grants under OMH’s Community Partnerships to Eliminate Health Disparities Demonstration Grant Program.

A distressed community is defined as a neighborhood or geographic community with an unemployment rate and/or poverty rate equal to or greater than the State or national rate.

This funding opportunity announcement (FOA) solicits Exploratory/Developmental (R21) grant applications proposing to support health promotion research directed at women, before, during and after pregnancy to improve their health and well-being and that of their infant. USDA Announces $20 Million Available for Distance Learning and Telemedicine in Rural Communities
"The specialized health care and enhanced educational opportunities brought by modern technologies saves lives and promotes opportunities essential to the advancement of rural areas," said Dorr. "USDA Rural Development's funding for distance learning and telemedicine will help to bring technology into rural America to build strong and vibrant communities."
SAMHSA Conference Grants

The purpose of the Conference Grant program is to disseminate knowledge about practices within the mental health services and substance abuse prevention and treatment fields and to integrate that knowledge into real-world practice as effectively and efficiently as possible.
