	Mechanisms of Drug Abuse Interactions with HIV Neuropathogenesis (R21) This Funding Opportunity Announcement solicits research grant applications to examine the mechanisms of interaction between licit or illicit substance abuse, or medications to treat substance abuse, and events related to the etiology and pathogenesis of HIV-associated neurologic complications. 	Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program for Underrepresented Students (R25) Do you want to pursue a biomedical or behavioral sciences research career? Are you interested in contributing to improving the health of the people of the United States and to the national need of ultimately eliminating health disparities in this country? If so, look into the Bridges to the Baccalaureate Program for Underrepresented Students funding opportunity. The objective of this program is to strengthen the pipeline of biomedical and behavioral science related graduates from underrepresented groups and/or health disparities populations, a necessary first step in increasing diversity in professional personnel investigating health disparities. The application submission/receipt dates are January 18, 2007 and May 18, 2007.
	Health Disparities Among Minority and Underserved Women The purpose of this initiative is to stimulate research aimed at reducing health disparities among racial/ethnic minority and underserved women. More specifically, this initiative seeks applications for: (1) research related to health promotion or risk reduction among minority and underserved women age 21 and older; and, (2) intervention studies that show promise for improving the health profile of minority and underserved women. 	CAM at Minority or Health Disparities Research Centers (R21) Grant This initiative will support basic science research projects and clinical research projects to investigate the safety, efficacy, and mechanisms of action of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) practices as they relate to minority health or racial and ethnic health disparities. 	Longitudinal Studies of HIV-Associated Lung Infections and Complications (R01) The purpose of this grant is to accelerate research on lung complications associated with HIV-infection by characterizing lung infections, other HIV-associated lung complications, and their consequences in longitudinal studies in existing HIV-infected cohorts and other established groups of HIV-infected patients. The application deadline is December 20, 2006.
	Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) New Connections Initiative: Bringing Diversity to RWJF Grantmaking and Increasing Secondary Data Analyses This three-year program is designed to expand the diversity of perspectives that inform RWJF programming and introduce new researchers and scholars to the Foundation, while simultaneously helping to meet staff needs for data that can measure progress towards programming objectives. 	NIDA Research Education Grants in Drug Abuse and Addiction (R25) This grant is a flexible and specialized mechanism designed to foster the development of drug addiction researchers through creative and innovative educational programs. Programs that focus on preparing researchers in cross-disciplinary integration and/or translational research of neuroscience, basic behavioral, prevention, clinical, treatment, and services research are particularly encouraged. The application deadline is January 31, 2007.
	Design, Synthesis, and Preclinical Testing of Potential Treatment Agents for Drug Addiction (R01) This Funding Opportunity Announcement (FOA) issued by the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), National Institutes of Health, solicits research applications from institutions/organizations that propose design, synthesis, and preclinical testing of potential treatment agents for drug addiction and/or relapse prevention. A total of $2,000,000 is committed to this RFA. The application deadline is January 27, 2007.
	Development of Immunotherapeutic Products for the Treatment of Methamphetamine Addiction (U01) This grant is made available to support research in the design, synthesis, and pre-clinical evaluation of vaccines developed from methamphetamine-protein conjugates (heretofore referred to as methamphetamine conjugate vaccines or MCVs) for the active immunotherapeutic treatment of methamphetamine addiction. The application deadline is January 12, 2007.
	Collaborative HIV Prevention Research in Minority Communities Program The Collaborative HIV Prevention Research in Minority Communities Program is designed to assist Scientists/Researchers to improve their programs of research and obtain additional funding for their work. In the program UCSF Center for AIDS Prevention Studies faculty collaborate with program participants to develop ethnic minority focused HIV prevention research projects with the goals of: (1) increasing the amount of high quality, community collaborative HIV prevention research being conducted in minority communities; (2) increasing the number of ethnic minority group members among principal investigators at NIH, CDC, and other agencies. The application deadline is January 8, 2007.
	NIH R01 Grant Applications Go Electronic – Training to be Held December 5, 2006 In an effort to move the grant application process 100% online NIH will host a training event on Tuesday, December 5, 2006 to assist applicants and organizations through this transition period. This training is available in-person and via Web cast and will be archived for later viewing. 	Evaluator Sought for Weed and Seed Under a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Justice's Community Capacity Development Office, the Justice Research and Statistics Association is seeking applications for an evaluation of the National Weed and Seed Strategy. Weed and Seed is a comprehensive, multi-agency approach to law enforcement, crime prevention, and community revitalization in designated high-crime neighborhoods. It is anticipated that up to $1.3 million may be awarded under this solicitation. The Intent to Respond deadline is November 22, 2006. The application deadline is December 29, 2006.
	Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Office of Orphan Products Development (OPD) Grant These grant awards will support clinical trials on the safety and effectiveness of products for rare diseases and conditions. These studies are intended to provide acceptable data to the FDA that will substantially contribute to the approval of new products, or new indications for already marketed products. The receipt date for FY 2008 is February 7, 2007

	HIV Prevention with National Medical Associations The purpose of the program is to reduce barriers to early diagnosis of HIV infection and increase access to quality medical care, treatment, and ongoing prevention services for men and women infected with HIV among populations disproportionately impacted by the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
