The Plain Language Community

As more and more people come to realize the costs of poor communication and the value of writing clearly and with the reader in mind, governments and private sector organizations around the world are supporting plain language efforts. From this page, you can explore the plain language community around the world. Join in and help us all reap the benefits of clarity and brevity!

Plain Language within the federal government
Government should be accessible to the citizens it governs. The government should not use a specialized language understood only by those on the inside. It is every citizen's right to understand what the government is doing, and to achieve this government must write more clearly than it does today. Many Federal Agencies have developed plain-language programs to meet this goal.

Plain Language around the United States
Several important non-profit organizations and groups of professionals support the plain language effort within the United States, helping the US become a leader in the world–wide plain-language movement.

Plain Language in other countries
Governments and private organizations around the world strongly believe in plain language.
