Director of Undergraduate Medical Education – University of California San Francisco

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of California San Francisco is seeking a Director of Undergraduate Medical Education for the Parnassus (Moffitt-Long) campus site. The Director of Undergraduate Medical Education will supervise the medical student education curriculum in the Emergency Department at Moffitt-Long Hospital. In addition, the Director will work closely with the Residency Program Director on educational initiatives in the Emergency Department and the School of Medicine. The position will include protected time for academic and research activities.

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of California San Francisco is seeking a Director of Undergraduate Medical Education for the Parnassus (Moffitt-Long) campus site. The 560 bed hospital is consistently rated in the top 10 in the country, and serves as a referral site for Northern California. UCSF ranks 4th in the country in NIH research grants among institutions and 2nd among medical schools. The ED volume is approximately 39,000 annually with a 23% admission rate. The ED itself is in a recently renovated facility with electronic physician documentation. The Department has full academic status, has an active clinical research program with external funding, and teaching attending shifts to supervise medical students. ACGME recently approved a four-year Emergency Medicine residency program for 12 residents per year that will begin in the summer of 2008.

The Director of Undergraduate Medical Education will supervise the medical student education curriculum in the Emergency Department at Moffitt-Long Hospital. In addition, the Director will work closely with the Residency Program Director on educational initiatives in the Emergency Department and the School of Medicine. The position will include protected time for academic and research activities.

The successful candidate will be board certified in Emergency Medicine with a proven track record in medical education. University faculty rank will be commensurate with experience.
