U.S. Department of Labor's OSHA Establishes Safety Alliance with John A. Logan College, Carterville, Illinois

CARTERVILLE, Ill. -- The U.S. Labor Department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) signed an alliance with John A. Logan College, Carterville, Ill., to assist the federal workplace safety and health agency in developing training and education programs for employers.

"This alliance will provide us with an opportunity to use the expertise available at John A. Logan College to develop workplace safety and health curricula," said Nick Walters, OSHA area director in Peoria, Ill. "We are confident the cooperative effort will enhance the opportunity to meet our mutual goal to eliminate injuries and fatalities."

OSHA health and safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of employees through cooperative partnerships. Alliances provide an opportunity to participate in a cooperative relationship with OSHA for purposes such as training and education, outreach and communication, and promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health.

Under the Occupational Safety and Health Act of 1970, employers are responsible for providing a safe and healthy workplace for their employees. OSHA’s role is to assure the safety and health of America’s working men and women by setting and enforcing standards; providing training, outreach and education; establishing partnerships; and encouraging continual process improvement in workplace safety and health.
