Workplace Safety and Health Day in Peoria Offers a Variety of Employer Guides to Protecting Workers
Annual Event Co-sponsored by U.S. Department of Labor's OSHA

PEORIA, Ill. -- Making and keeping the workplace healthy and safe is the focus of the 16th annual Downstate Illinois Occupational Safety and Health Day (DIOSH Day), slated for Feb. 28, 2007, at the Peoria Civic Center. Information on workplace safety and health issues will be discussed and made available for employers, employees and the general public.

This year's conference will highlight safe approaches to some of industry's toughest workplace issues, including presentations on current dangers and electrical wizardry, accident investigation and analysis and creating a safety attitude. Breakout sessions on workplace ergonomics, indoor air pollution, safety management, wellness in the workplace, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance and recordkeeping, lead exposure and fall protection will be offered. A mini-health fair, which will include blood pressure and heart rate screening, glucose levels and other valuable health screening services will also be featured.

The daylong conference opens for registration at 7 a.m. CST and continues with workshops and breakout sessions until 4 p.m.

"More than 50 exhibitors will join governmental and nonprofit organizations in demonstrating useful and innovative products and services designed to meet workplace safety and health goals," said Nick Walters, director of OSHA's area office in Peoria. "This conference offers safety professionals in downstate Illinois the chance to network with hundreds of their peers and to learn about resources available to businesses and employers."

Exhibit area hours are from 7 a.m. until 3:10 p.m. the day of the conference, which is jointly sponsored by the American Society of Safety Engineers Central Illinois Chapter; American Industrial Hygiene Association, Prairie Section; Greater Peoria Contractors and Suppliers Association Inc.; the Illinois Department of Labor; OSHA's Peoria area office; the Employers' Association; and the Tri-County Construction Labor-Management Council.

Registration and additional information may be obtained by calling 1-877-DIOSH-DAY or by visiting the Web site at www.DIOSHDay.com
