First Midwest Alliance with AGC OMAHA, Neb. -- Ensuring safety and health for employees in the construction industry is the goal of a new alliance between the U.S. Department of Labor's Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and the Associated General Contractors of America (AGC). A signing ceremony will be held Oct. 15 in Lincoln, Neb. OSHA Health and Safety alliances are part of U.S. Labor Secretary Elaine L. Chao's ongoing efforts to improve the health and safety of workers. OSHA alliances provide an opportunity to participate in a cooperative relationship with OSHA for purposes such as training and education, outreach and communication, and promoting a national dialogue on workplace safety and health. "This alliance is the first Midwest effort with this organization," said Charles E. Adkins, CIH, OSHA regional administrator in Kansas City. The alliance will provide information, guidance and access to training resources to protect the health and safety of over 2,000 member employees in Nebraska, particularly in reducing and preventing exposure to falls, electrocutions, struck-by, caught-in and construction amputation hazards. Participants in the alliance are the AGC of America-Nebraska Building Chapter, OSHA, and the Nebraska Department of Labor-Workforce Development OSHA Consultation.
