PHILADELPHIA RCFL SUPPORTS INVESTIGATION

Jul. 23, 2007

(Philadelphia, PA) – Fourteen-year old Dillon Cossey of Plymouth Township, Pennsylvania made national news when he was arrested for allegedly planning a Columbine-type attack against a high school in suburban Philadelphia. The teen, who left seventh grade in favor of being home schooled, was arrested after he tried to recruit another boy to help him carry out his plot. Although authorities have stated in press reports that Cossey was not yet ready to attack the school, the teenager had a large stash of weapons in his home, including a 9 mm semiautomatic rifle, approximately 30 air-powered guns, swords, knives, a book about making bombs, and videos of the 1999 Columbine High School attack.

The Philadelphia RCFL is providing digital forensics assistance to the Plymouth Police Department which is leading the investigation and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office. The District Attorney’s office has been a participating agency with the PHRCFL since its opening in July 2006. Cossey is currently being held in juvenile custody and could possibly remain there until he turns 21.
